Self Help Groups
Throughout the Indian subcontinent, the void created through historical factors of illiteracy, poverty and ill health have meant that there are many groups within the communities cannot better themselves due to lack of knowledge, tools and skills. As part of its ongoing scheme, MTN have focused in on helping women in the Kandulapalem region who through circumstance of widowhood, poverty etc are some of the most disadvantaged members of the community. MTN are organising workshops to teach skills for these women manufacture crafts which can be sold on and create and independent income stream for them.
“Give a man a fish and you will have fed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you have fed him for life”.
Through foundation’s funding MTN have been able to provide tools like sewing machines. Further through Foundations connection with the Kay El group, there will be an ongoing programme to advise and guide these groups to create more commercially viable products which will have a wider appeal in international market. Further support will be offered through the Kay El groups retail division of house of the world who will promote and sell these items.
