Case Studies
First hand case study from Paparoa about 2 abandoned children:
One day, the local police brought two children to my orphanage. One was male and the other a female. The children are 7 and 8 years old. These children said to me: Sir, we came from a different village. We slept in the bus station. By the time we got up from the sleep, we did not find our mother. We have never seen our father since our early age. We waited and waited expecting that our mother will come back to us. But, she never came back to us. One lady at the bus station gave us some left over food and we stayed until evening. But, our mother did not come back. So, we were so afraid and started crying. Outside, it was so cloudy and there is lot of rain too. We heard loud thunders from the sky…we were so afraid…there were frogs around us too. This is all made us to cry. Then, one policeman saw us and asked us where we were from…we said…we do not know.. and explained our predicament to him.
First hand case study from Paparoa of 2 estranged children:
One day, some neighbors brought two children to our orphanage. Their case study is: The alcoholic husband regularly used to beat his wife and one day, he poured kerosene on her and tried to burn her. She ran away to the neighbors hut and then the husband deserted the family. Later, the neighbors came to know that this person was already married another woman; He used to beat his wife regularly. He has these two children who used to live with their mother. The mother is illiterate and does not have an income source. So, one day, the mother took the two children to her neighbor and said, Please take care of my children and I will go to my parents’ house and come back in a day.
The neighbors believed what the lady said and accepted the two children to stay with them. But, the mother never came back again.
Like this, 2 years passed away. But, she never came back to see the children. Then, the neighbors brought these two children to our orphanage.
There are many cases like this and many children become trapped in a vicious and seemingly never ending cycle. MTN want to rehabilitate such children and want to give them new hope. That is why, MTN started an orphan home in Kakinada with 18 children. I used to bring homeless and beggar children with my scooter and my late wife used to give them a bath, clean their wounds and apply antibiotic ointment, give them vitamins, egg, a glass of milk and teach them about hygiene and good habits like taking bath every day, hair cut, cutting of nails, brushing the teeth etc. And also, she used to teach them the alphabet. Like this, the social outreach work was started. Slowly, as people joined their hands with me, we started helping more and more children. Presently, we are helping 200 orphan/homeless/beggar/destitute children with food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and of course education too. Every where in India, there are many destitute children who have been neglected by their parents.
Due to this, many girl children are working as house servants. When they become teenagers some unscrupulous elements of society are selling such children to prostitution houses in Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Hyderabad, Goa and many other places.
Very often, I read this kind of news in the news papers and also I watch such news in TV. The situation of the destitute female children in India is dire straights. Male children also, are abusing alcohol & drugs and turning into pick pockets, thieves, robbers, these deprived youths are also being coerced to join terrorist activities too. This is all so sad.
First hand case study from Paparao of the plight of young girls:
Missions to the Nations, continually look into various issues and scenarios affecting the disadvantaged. One day, we want to see the actual problems that young girls are facing. We chose two villages which are located near to the high way. Besides to the high way are some gardens. It was dark and late at night. Whilst we were walking on the road, small girls aged between 12 to 15 years old started calling us. So, we went to them and started talking to them and asked about their parents, brothers, sisters etc. Then, they started telling so many things. The two girls said (both are blood related sisters) they do not have any parents and are living with an elderly widow. The widow was once a prostitute. The girls said that if they go with men, they can earn money and can live nicely and happily. So, they were caught in the prostitution. They looked weak as they do not have enough sleep at nights and I also suspect that they had some medical problems.. We had a lengthy talk with them to try to rehabilitate them. But, they would not agree, stating, “Sir, we have already grown up now…no education…. So, we want to be here only.” There are many young girls in a similar position, through the orphan home program, we can rehabilitate them and give them education, shelter, security, Love and affection, Medical care etc.
